Welcome!

This is a blog about trying new things, tasting all the good things in life, and making every day an adventure.

Do things that make you happy. Try things that will make you better. Look to your friends for inspiration. Everyone has a talent or a special gift to offer. Sometimes just doing the smallest thing can provide a sense of accomplishment, enhance our wellbeing and increase our self-worth.

And if you feel uncomfortable...good! That means you're growing. See as many places as you can on this planet. Meet new people and try new things. There's so much I still want to do and try so you're invited to follow my adventures...the big and the bitty. We can enjoy them over Cocktails on Monday...or any day of the week.

Cheers!

Movie Day at Mine

Movie Day at Mine

I am always trying to think of fun things to do with girlfriends. Things that are a little different than the norm and that allow us to bond a little and giggle a lot! It's fun to get creative, think outside the box, and mix things up a bit. We all enjoy going out for dinner and drinks or getting together for coffee, but sometimes it's nice to stay in, wear comfy clothes and just chill out together. So that's what we did on our Movie Day debute! And what movie could be better for a girly afternoon in than Magic Mike?! (Well, it may have proved a little too racy for one of my British girlfriends but I feel it's my mission to corrupt as many English friends with American "culture" as I can while I'm here. Lol.)

So last December, before school let out for Christmas break, a couple of my girlfriends came over to my house to watch a movie...Magic Mike! Neither one of them had seen it before and since it was cold and dreary outside, Magic Mike could certainly warm things up inside! But of course it would be boring to just watch a movie. We needed treat bags, special touches and snacks! So I made a bunch of finger sandwiches and had snacks & sugary treats at the ready! Michelle brought treat bags--complete with knickers to throw at the screen (because, duh, it was Magic Mike!)--and Debbie brought the matching cuddly socks. We hadn't told each other that we were bringing these items so it was funny when we all "presented our gifts" to each other! I had just told the girls what movie we'd be watching and to dress comfortably. The rest was..."magic"!

On that cold, wintry day we snuggled up warm under blankets and watched the HOT Magic Mike while snacking our way through dance routines and knicker-throwing...and definitely lots of giggling! Since Movie Day #1 was such a success, Movie Day #2 has been discussed and is in the works! And I can't wait!

Now it's your turn! Depending on what movie you choose, you can make snacks or create fun props to go with the theme. For instance, if you were going to watch The Notebook, you could gift everyone a new notebook & cute pen...along with lots of Kleenex!! Serve Southern-style favorites like Sweet Tea (or buy it), Lemonade, Deviled EggsPimento Cheese DipMoon Pies and peanuts. Then make sure everyone has a comfy place to sit and a cozy blanket to snuggle! And that's it!

Here are some other great chick flicks that would be fun to watch:

  • Pitch Perfect 1 & 2 (2012 & 2015)
  • Bridesmaids (2011)
  • The Notebook (2004)
  • Mean Girls (2004)
  • Romy & Michele's High School Reunion (1997)
  • Sex and the City (2008)
  • Crazy, Stupid Love (2011)
  • Sixteen Candles (1984)
  • Pretty Woman (1990)
  • Dirty Dancing (1987)
  • And of course, Magic Mike 1 & 2! (2012 & 2015)

{We didn't partake in any cocktails during our Movie Day (It was, afterall, only 11am--not that that's always stopped me before. Lol.) but a "mocktail" can be just as enjoyable. So why not try a Fuzzy Navel Mocktail? It's a light, refreshing drink that would pair well with salty snacks and sandwiches. And I thought a drink with the name of a body part was quite appropriate to go with this post about Magic Mike...wink, wink.}
