And if you feel uncomfortable...good! That means you're growing. See as many places as you can on this planet. Meet new people and try new things. There's so much I still want to do and try so you're invited to follow my adventures...the big and the bitty. We can enjoy them over Cocktails on Monday...or any day of the week.

I dare you not to smile when you're jumping on a trampoline. I double dare you not to smile after you've put on these neon colored socks with sticky pads on the bottom (required for jumping). And I triple dog dare you not to sweat during a trampoline fitness class!! They are the real deal! When a new trampoline park called Rush opened up in nearby High Wycombe, of course Mallie and all her friends were excited to go! So I went on Rush's website and as I was having a mooch (another Englishy word for you) I discovered they offered a bunch of adult fitness classes in the mornings and evenings. Some of the ones that caught my eye were the Clubbercise, Street Dance (Yes, on trampolines!!), Trampoline Circuits, Trampoline Fit/Dance, and Rush F.H.I.I.T (High Intensity Interval Training--don't know what the "F" is for...). The one that fit my schedule best was the Rush FHIIT class so that's the one I tried first and the class I've continued to take once a week. I love it! The instructor is great (and uber-fit), and she takes us through intervals of high intensity jumping moves mixed with strength and toning exercises. It's a total body workout. And we burn about 600 calories during the 60 minute session! It costs 10 GBP per class (that's $14.46) but is well worth the cost. We're smiling, laughing, burning calories and having FUN!!

When you're a kid, exercise IS fun--you climb trees, ride bikes & skateboards, go rollerskating, swimming, run through sprinklers, run from your brother because he's chasing you with a dead moth (or what that just me?), get sweaty and burn off tons of energy all the time. That's not because kids are counting calories. It's because they do things that make them happy, bring them joy and that are fun. As adults, we need to bring some of that joy back into our daily routines and make exercise fun again! And trampolining is by far the most fun I've had in a fitness class!

Here's a list of the benefits of trampolining:

Stimulates your metabolism.
Increases oxygen capacity.
Improves your sense of balance.
Increases oxygen circulation to tissues.
Improves the circulation of the lymph through the lymph glands.
Strengthens the heart (Cardiovascular health).
Increases energy and sense of vitality.
Firms and tones the muscles.

And, BONUS! There's a cafe at Rush!! So after bouncing and sweating with your friends, you can walk right over to the cafe, order a nice Peppermint Tea and talk about how awesome you're all going to look this summer because of the calories you're burning at trampoline class! (And since I am usually bright red and sweaty after a workout I definitely don't want to go out in public for my cuppa.) If you're looking for a new type of workout, something fun and that will definitely burn off the wine you plan to consume tonight, then check out your local trampoline park. Jumping on a trampoline really makes you feel like a kid again. And if there's one thing better than acting like a kid again, it's doing it with your girlfriends. So grab some of your fun, willing (or easily-bribed) friends, don your neon-colored sticky socks, and let the smiling and sweating commence!

{My favorite childhood drink was the Shirley Temple. I used to order it as my "special drink" when we went out to restaurants. (Now Mallie likes to order them.) It's traditionally made with Ginger Ale, 7up or Sprite, a splash of Grenadine and garnished with a Maraschino Cherry. Since I'm all grown up now, I've moved on to the Dirty Shirley. It has all the sweet yumminess of the Shirley Temple with the added kick of vodka. Funny how after a few of these I not only start feeling like a kid again but I start acting like one, too! Try this cocktail yourself this Monday...or any day of the week. Cheers!}

Dirty Shirley Recipe:

  • 1 12-ounce can lemon lime soda
  • 3 ounces cherry vodka
  • 2 splashes grenadine syrup
  • 2 maraschino cherries, plus extra for garnish
  • lime wedge, for garnish

Fill two glasses with ice. Pour in the Sprite and the cherry vodka dividing equal amounts in each glass. Add a splash of grenadine and a cherry to each drink. Mix drinks well and garnish with cherries and limes. Enjoy!
